All materials are printed on cream colour paper using comic sans MS font as it is thought that people with learning differences find it easier to read workbooks in this format.
The workbooks have been written to ensure all learning styles can access the content. Each book is bound and is colour coded for each section and contains a timetable to evidence time spent learning.
The Ward Program has specifically created workbooks for the progression in independent daily living skills. Using the workbooks young people gain accreditation by National Open College Network for everyday living skills.

The Ward Program has been created specifically for young people with autism spectrum disorders, Asperger’s, ADD. Young people accessing The Ward Program will evidence their progress they make in a bespoke and personal way. Their progress is monitored using S.M.A.R.T. GOALS.
Successful completion of the units will result in a NOCN accredited qualification.
It will enable the facility to ensure a consistent approach in supporting and coaching and allow for measurable results by internal and external agencies.
It is recognised that when some areas are identified as targets, the level of coaching will increase, as support and encouragement is crucial for development and success to be achieved in a smooth process.
To offer training in Skills for Life in an accredited and measurable format, is a valuable way to benefit young people, during transition towards independence. Trained staff support and coach the learner, as well as evidencing every step of progress.
It is recommended that part of staff training will be coaching skills NOCN level 2. This encourages the team to have ownership of the Program.
Where regular reviews are held, a ‘Skills for Life’ report will add strength to the learning achieved demonstrating a knowledge and understanding of the young person’s needs.
Each unit attains credits in areas of Daily Living Skills. The workbooks are created to address learning styles and learning differences.
The purpose of the program is to allow individuals to work through workbooks at an appropriate pace, with the support of a coach who will demonstrate, explain and discuss the activity or learning. The learner is coached and encouraged in the activity or learning and it is expected that the learner will demonstrate the activity or learning independently. This process is evidenced throughout the workbook:
Assessment of the activities can be evidenced in a combination of: The written workbook incorporating Photographic evidence / Oral Questions and Answers/ a Project / Diary/Practical Demonstrations/
Further Evidence.
